German language has formal and informal variations, a specific sentence structure, a change to which can change meaning, gender based articles for the nouns which change based on the role of the word…
But, amongst this complexity, if we can
- clearly define our focused goal and syllabus,
- know how to chunk down the material to manageable pieces without overwhelm,
- and learn the underlying competencies regardless of what we are learning
– we can make sure and fast progress to reach your specific unique personal goals.
Learn german while learning towards what matters to you. While learning what matters to you, learn at an understanding level, below the hood, beyond the obvious remember/repeat methods… so that you have strong fundamentals to further your German learning as you wish.
Example of subskill learning: German vowels and alphabet groups have specific sounds regardless of the word – unlike in English. Learn the sounds using a few words, well enough to be understood in exams, real life or offices – then increase the number of words and sentences.
The opposite – which is being promoted by most online resources and apps – repeating 100s or 1000s of words and sentences, with the wrong pronunciation will only make you practice wrong over all the repetitions. Efficient and sensible sorting: learn the subskills with a few, then repeat to practice correctly to confidence.
Focused syllabus German learning needs to lead you to your specific goals. A common mistake – thinking generic German learning sources will get you to your goal. It can’t. Your need maybe to use in real life, in a specific field, in offices, for exams. What is the exact core syllabus you need to prepare here? The 20% that will give you 80% results? Get it right and you will see the results. Else, like most, we maybe stuck at the very basics, without progress, wasting time with no lasting results.
Chunking The right amount of brain squeeze – challenging but not overwhelming. Some types of learning can just not be done in too short a time. We need to reduce the quantity to be covered, focus on the competencies for efficiency, get to our next 1% progress.
Underlying skills Pronunciation, changing articles and endings based on gender and word role, formality – these and other competencies are to be learnt regardless of what we learn, so that we can make sure best practices are followed, fundamentals are strong, we can further our learning with confidence.
This course is a good fit for you if:
- you have started learning german, needs a focused syllabus to pass the A1 exam or take care of German basics in real life
- want to make sure of pronunciation, basics of formality, spoken German confidence
- understand the underlying structures and competencies so that beyond a parrot repeating level, you can learn and progress with strong foundations and understanding
- you like deeper and confident instead of hobby learning wide and unsure and unusable for any real situations
The syllabus in the course is required for real life basics, A1 exam, starting to learn German while understanding the layers of learning needed for strong fundamentals.
Not for hobby learners who are not interested in correct pronunciation, formality, sentence structure etc… Anyway without these, it is not German.
